This month’s calendar wallpaper is something just a bit different from my usual offerings. OK, it’s a lot different, as in completely different. Read on…

I recently discovered a feature in the Picasa photo editing program of which I was not previously aware. Within the Collage feature, the “Multiple Exposure” option superimposes selected photos on top of each other into one big amalgamation of photo-ness. I can’t think of too many practical applications of this feature, but I nevertheless decided to play with it using photos from the recent ORANGE photography assignment. I selected just one orange photo from each of the participants, clicked the Create Collage button and let Picasa work its magic. I find the resulting image to be a veritable work of abstract art. I call it “1 Orange Each.”

The image for the September wallpaper was taken this past weekend in the old mining town of St. Elmo in the heart of Colorado’s Sawatch Range. I found this wagon wheel at a really cool outdoor antique shop there.

And only a day late this time! :)

FINALLY the August wallpaper! I know – it’s about time! I’m hoping that not too many of you have missed appointments due to not having the current month’s calendar on your computer’s desktop! ;)

This photo of Long Lake with the Indian Peaks beyond doubles as the final post of my Lake Isabelle hike a week ago.

P.S. The 39° North Photography blog hit a little milestone yesterday… for the first time, we went over 100 unique visits for the day. :) In fact, we went WAY over. According to my stats plug-in, we had 152 unique visitors yesterday! Whoever you are, thanks for visiting and welcome to my blog! I post something new pretty much every day, so keep coming back! A huge thanks to all of my regulars, too – all 21 of you! ;)   I do it for you.

The wallpaper for June is a photo I took just the other day of a day lily in my best friend’s backyard in Spring, Texas.

(I incorrectly identified said day lily as a hibiscus in another post, which has since been deleted. Silly me).

Today I’m going to start something new. On or about the 1st of each month, I plan to post an image that my visitors can use as their desktop wallpaper for that month if they so choose.

I’m going to start with what is probably my favorite image ever. This is called Reynisdrangar and it’s a set of basalt sea stacks lurking under the mountain Reynisfjall near the village Vík í Mýrdal in southern Iceland. Legend has it that Reynisdrangar was formed when two trolls were trying to drag a three-masted ship to land. When daylight broke they turned to stone.
